Shelbey Myrick

Hailey Hoog

Junior Hailey Hoog has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for February 2023. Originally from Jenks, Oklahoma, Hoog came to the U of A to study biomedical engineering. She is a part of the Honors College and currently serves as the student leader for Native American Initiatives for the Multicultural Center. She is also the director of academic affairs for the Associated Student Government.

Shelbey Myrick

Lacie Duke

Senior Lacie Duke has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for January 2023. Originally from Huntsville, Lacie came to the U of A to study English with a minor in social work. She currently serves as the special projects coordinator for the Arkansas Union. She is also involved in the Arkansas Union’s F.U.N. Committee and the Arkansas Union’s 50th Anniversary Planning Committee. 

Duke said she got involved in these organizations because she really loves working for the Arkansas Union. 

December 2022

Amelia Southern Uribe

Sophomore Amelia Southern Uribe has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for December 2022. Uribe stayed in Fayetteville after graduating high school to attend the U of A to study journalism and political science. Uribe is a part of the Honors College and is involved in many campus activities.

Uribe, who prefers the pronoun they, is the founder and current president of Zero Hour Arkansas, an intersectional sustainability and climate advocacy RSO. 

November 2022

Gerson Fajardo

Senior Gerson Fajardo has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for November 2022. Originally from Honduras and now residing in Bentonville, Fajardo is studying biomedical engineering. He’s currently employed as a phlebotomist at the Pat Walker Health Center and serves as the director of student safety for Associated Student Government. Fajardo is also a student ambassador for the Office of Admissions and volunteers at 7Hills Homeless Center, along with being a member of the Campus Council.

October 2022

Madison Tschirhart 

Tschirhart decided to stay in her hometown, Fayetteville, and attend the U of A to study communications, sociology and criminology. She currently holds two jobs on campus as a student-athlete learning assistant and a student liaison for the Student Success Center. Tschirhart also volunteers regularly on campus with student programs such as Cardinal Nights. She enjoys the volunteer programs that are hosted at the U of A, especially because of how well coordinated they are.

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad

Originally from Islamabad, Pakistan, Muhammad came to the U of A to study poultry science with a minor in agricultural business. He is currently involved with the Volunteer Action Center, the Poultry Science Club, the Agriculture Future of America, and he is a cross-cultural mentor.

Muhammad got involved in these organizations to give back to the community that has accepted him as an international student. He wanted to be involved in his major and be alongside other current leaders.

Shelbey Myrick

Shelbey Myrick

Originally from Siloam Springs, Myrick came to the U of A to study communication sciences and disorders. She is currently a student success guide within the Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence on campus. This past spring semester, Myrick worked with the EMPOWER Program on campus. She has also helped with New Student Orientation, the HIP (High Impact Practices) conference and has had first-hand experience working with higher education programs.

The Student Leader of the Month award recognizes a University of Arkansas undergraduate student for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement leadership activities or through service programs. New Student and Family Programs would like to invite you to nominate students who you believe fit the following qualifications: 

Criteria for Nominated Student

  • Good academic and disciplinary standing with the University of Arkansas 
  • Exemplifies leadership through personal development, organizational leadership, citizenship, and community building.
